Intertwine

Intertwine draws from the basket-weaving traditions of the Choctaw people of Louisiana’s Bayou Chicot region, where materials like switch cane and longleaf pine were gathered and woven by hand.

The suspended form reinterprets the curves and layered structure of traditional baskets, while also echoing the crescent bend of the Mississippi River through New Orleans. Its interlocking ribs make the act of weaving visible, while the color palette reflects the seasonal cycle of growth, change, and drying process found in longleaf pine.

Suspended within the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Intertwine is a contemporary gesture shaped by Louisiana’s landscape and histories of making.
