Reaching

Narrative: Reaching is a luminous, twisting olive tree sculpture that celebrates unity, growth, and community. Commissioned for Leawood, Kansas’ 75th Anniversary, it features 75 curved aluminum branches rising from a limestone base inspired by the ancient gate of sister city Gezer. Visitors are invited to pass through and gather within, experiencing the interplay of natural form and architectural reference. By day, the sculpture serves as a striking landmark; by night, custom lighting transforms it into a glowing beacon, with dynamic displays marking seasons, holidays, and civic milestones. Integrated into the surrounding park and trail, Reaching stands as both a cultural anchor and a symbol of connection, honoring the past while inspiring a forward-looking spirit.
